Four generations

It had been a while since I'd taken a Four Generations picture with my mom, my grandma, and my kids. I grabbed the opportunity at my grandma's 91st birthday party this summer. (Hmmm ... that sounds like she had 91 parties this summer.)

Here we are in all of our sweaty, sunblocked, Cheeto-lipped, worn-out glory after a long, fun day at my aunt and uncle's house:

Summer fun - wedding

This summer we went to Illinois to enjoy Chad's cousin's wedding.

It was a wonderful wedding for a wonderful couple

 that included

time with great-grandparents,

pictures with cousins,

hugs from everyone,

prizes in a raffle,

dancing with Daddy,

and dancing with sisters.

Thank you to Chad's extended family for such a fun weekend celebrating the start of a God-filled marriage!

Summer fun - swimming lessons

It's possible that I've been remiss, negligent, delinquent, and just plain lazy about finishing my Summer Fun posts. So, here is the next to last one.

Swimming lessons.
All three kids took swimming lessons from the wonderful Michelle again this year. They all improved greatly and can probably all three be considered "swimmers" now. Evan and Kendra both added new strokes to their swimming repertoire - back stroke and breast stroke. And Laura was able to swim freestyle pretty well.

I took very few pictures, but here are a few.

The kids all enjoyed getting to jump in the pool and swim back to the steps this year instead of entering the pool via the steps.

They also like trying to find the perfect way to jump off the steps to dive to the bottom of the pool to retrieve diving sticks.

The steps are where most of the verbal instruction takes place. It's also where the kids take a quick rest to catch their breath ... usually by sitting with their heads under the water.

When the kids first started swimming lessons 3 years ago, it was hard for them to sit still while a sibling was in the pool. One year I took along fruit snacks to keep Laura busy. One year I took along coloring books. This year, the kids all got to take along a book or two to read while they waited their turn. Some days they read, and some days they just lounged and watched while waiting.

But the next to last lesson was the one Laura had waited for -- the swimming race. She requested this from Michelle. She wanted all three lovebugs to be in the pool at the same time and have a swimming race. And Michelle granted it. Here they are taking off:

Another great summer of swimming lessons, full of bug-watching, flower-looking, construction-watching, cropduster-watching, raindrop-feeling, cool-breeze-chilling, hot-sun-burning, waiting-waiting-waiting, and of course swimming.
