Toddler theology

Kendra: Let's trade!
Laura: God doesn't want us to trade.
Kendra: God says we should share and that if we don't share, He'll cry and break the world. But if we share, then he won't break the world.

Coffee house nights

Before Chad and I were married, we went to a local (or local to where we were in college anyway) coffee house. It was a great place to spend time with friends, get yummy things to drink, and relax.

Now though, it seems, coffee drinks are priced astronomically high, and going to a coffee house is a rare occurence. (No worries about the coffee though. We roast our own coffee beans and make our own coffee drinks at home. And, don't tell, but they're better than at most coffee houses. Shhhh....) Plus, we have kids, so spending the wee hours of the morning in a coffee house isn't a very responsible thing to do.

So now we spend our nights in a cough-y house. Yes, a cough-y house. One where, instead of people drinking coffee and chatting and playing games, there are kids coughing in their beds.

Sunday night it was Evan who, after doing a couple of extra coughs for sympathy, got stuck in a coughing rut and couldn't stop for nearly 3 hours.

Last night it was Kendra who was coughing. And every time she would cough (in her sleep, mind you), Laura would yell, "Stop coughing! You're too loud, and I can't sleep!" Which would wake Kendra up so she'd cough longer. The eventual remedy to this vicious, yet funny, cycle was moving Kendra to the loveseat for the rest of the night.

Tonight, it again is Kendra coughing. Still in her sleep. But, since Laura wasn't asleep yet, she had something new to yell from her bed. "Mommy! Kendra's not covering her cough!" After a few gentle reminders that Kendra was asleep and therefore couldn't cover her cough, and that yelling about Kendra coughing will wake Kendra up and make her cough even more, hopefully things are settling down for the night.

For, despite the fact that I used to be ok with being at a coffee house until 2 every morning, I no longer like being in a cough-y house after 8:00 at night.

Not til you're dead

Laura: No! It's my turn!
Kendra: We need to get along or we won't get more of our movie later.
Laura: No! It's my turn!
Kendra: But if we argue, then we're not going to get more of our movie later.
Laura: You don't get a turn until you're dying.
Mommy: Did you say she doesn't get a turn until she's dying?
Kendra: Mom! That means I won't get a turn until I'm dying, and then I'll be dead!
Mommy: She just ... No, that ... [gives up and laughs]
