This morning, the Starbucks in our Hy-Vee was giving out free coffee. I thought this was a wonderful thing, but I also wondered why they were doing it.
Then, this afternoon, when I couldn't wake up from my unplanned 40 minute nap, I figured it out.
I think the free coffee was laced with sedatives so all the free coffee people would be super sleepy this afternoon and go back to get more coffee that they'd have to pay for.
There's my conspiracy theory for the day. It's very similar to the theory I used to have that kleenexes have something in them that makes your nose run, causing the use of their product to require more uses of their product.

Lessons from the kitchen
- If your daily coffee intake is a large cup at 2:00, don't change that routine if you're going to be cooking mid-afternoon.
- If your hands are like a sponge for onion odor and you have a meeting that evening, it's ok to use onion flakes instead of cutting a real onion.
- When you pick up the minced onion, make sure it's minced onion and not garlic powder before you give it an enormously hard shake into your ground beef that's going to be meatloaf for supper.
- It does (mostly) work to get the dry ingredients off your ground beef so you can start over. [This is open to a re-edit after we try tonight's supper.]
- If you decide at 3:30 that you really shouldn't have skipped that 2:00 cup of coffee, brew carefully.
- If you somehow brew your coffee onto the counter instead of into your coffee cup, it is ok to consider slurping your coffee off the counter.
- Instead of slurping your coffee off the counter, try blogging about your kitchen faux pas.

Brainwashed by the daddy
Chad has long referred to Curious George as Curious Monkey in our house. Mostly because he's a stinker and likes to see our kids' reactions when he says it.
Today, Laura was watching part of a Curious George DVD before lunch. Then when she was done eating lunch, she asked Chad if he would read some Curious George books to her. After a half-hour of "Curious Monkey" time with Daddy, Chad headed back to the office.
As soon as he was out the door, Laura hollered to the kitchen, "Can I watch more of my Curious Monkey movie now?"
I really wish I had been able to see her when she asked. I would have loved to see the look that crossed over her face right before she said, "NO, not Curious Monkey! It's Curious George! Can I watch more of my Curious George movie now?"
Way to go, Daddy-o, you've brainwashed her into saying "curious monkey"!

Sabotaged
Scene: Saturday morning, a few minutes after 7, about 15 minutes into the snuggle. The mommy is wanting to get up and head out to garage sales. The daddy and Laura are adamant that Mommy, who's stuck in between them in bed, should stay and snuggle longer.
Laura: Ok, we should get up and let her go. After one more hug ... or maybe two.
Chad: Three?
Laura: Ummmmmm ... I think ... five.
[Chad giggles.]
Laura, giving Mommy hugs: One ... two ... three ... four ... five ... six ... seven.
I love them dearly, but they really stink at letting me get out of bed in the mornings!
