Yesterday at the library, Laura chose Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie. Kendra and Laura don't like movies with anything scary at all in them (eg. Dora was banned from our house for a while because Swiper was too scary). Evan very rarely admits anything in a movie is too scary for him. The girls got to watch about a half-hour of the Sweet Dreams evilness while I made lunch today. When Evan got home from school, he asked if they could watch a movie. Kendra responded by asking if they could finish their Strawberry Shortcake movie. Evan adamantly said no because it's too scary.
It's now 8:51, well past Laura's bedtime, and she can't fall asleep. She's scared. She's shaky. She's crying off and on. Why, you ask? Because the movie was too scary.
Now, I wasn't planning on using this DVD as a bedtime tool based on its Sweet Dreams promises or anything. But, seriously? Why would a company make a Strawberry Shortcake movie, named Sweet Dreams, scary enough to have a 2 1/2-year-old too scared to shut her eyes 9 hours later?
Maybe that's why Kendra took an hour and a half to fall asleep tonight too and was complaining it was too dark in their room, despite there still being daylight coming around the shades.
Apparently that whole truth in advertising thing doesn't apply to having blatant lies in a movie title.

The weekend.
The ride.
The entertainment.
The nap.
The grandma.
The daddy.
The grotto.
The family.
The quietness by Baby Jesus.
The requested picture with The Boy Jesus.
The helping hands.
The grandpa and grandma.
The excitement of being right next to Jesus.
The prettiness.
The little places to rest.
The end.

Bunk beds
Lately, Chad and I have been discussing bunk beds for the girls' room. We've looked at them, we've discussed the pros and cons, we've even e-mailed some people who are selling them on craigslist. But then I always come back to the question of: Why bother with bunk beds?
It's so much easier to just stack the kids on the stairs to sleep,
or toss one up on top of Chad,
or even, in a real bind, simply put the kids on top of each other.
So, when you think about it, bunk beds really are a pretty frivolous thing.

Locked
The other day, Kendra was playing very happily and quietly with foam blocks by my desk while I worked, Laura napped, and Evan was at school. I thought she must have been having a lot of fun with them ... then I looked behind me. Kendra saw me look and started laughing. She had indeed been having fun, while she "locked" one of the wheels of my desk chair by building a square around it with blocks. After I noticed it, I assumed she was taking it apart. But the next time I looked, she had "locked" two more of my wheels and had them all interlocked to each other. Like this:
It took me a while to figure out how to squeeze my way out of my chair to go get the camera. But I thought it was worth the effort!
And, yes, she did kindly "unlock" me a few minutes later.
