We took some limbs and brush out to my parents' house this afternoon after Chad got done trimming our trees and bushes. Due to the car show and supper going on outside our house, our street was blocked off so we went the opposite way out of our driveway as usual.
After we're out of town, Evan's reciting Dinosaur vs. Bedtime (because it's a terribly cute, funny book). Kendra asks, "Are you reading your dinosaur book without the book in the van?" I replied with, "yes, he's his father's son."
A few seconds later, a couple of miles into our normal route to my parents' house, Kendra asks, "How are we going to get to Grandpa and Grandma's if we're going this way?" To which I replied, "this is the way we always go, Babe. We just had to go a different way out of our driveway." And then I added to Chad, "and she's her mother's daughter..."

Planning ahead
Kendra: When is that parade where they sit on top of the firetruck and throw candy? [4th of July parade]
Mommy: Monday. This is Saturday. Then it's Sunday, then Monday.
Kendra: Ok.
(Kendra runs off. She returns a few seconds later.)
Kendra: Mom, when is that parade? The next parade. The one that's like the one that's soon, but not that one. [Homecoming parade]
Mommy: September. That next parade is in September.
Kendra: Ok!

The Founding father, Sharpay
Evan was so excited at the first storytime this summer when he got a George Washington coloring poster.
You know, this George Washington.
Hmmm...err, not.
He really did think it was George Washington when he got it. He realized it wasn't George Washington very shortly after opening it. But it was still a poster to color with new little markers, so it's all good.

Insults, kid-style
The insults and put-downs run rampant in our house lately. However, you really can't help but laugh at most of them.
Earlier this week, Laura was being a stinker. Evan pointed at her and said, "You naughty Canadian." I have no idea where it came from, so don't ask.
Laura has two common reprimands for me lately. One is, "YOU are in charge." For some reason, she must think that means I'm being naughty. And it completely satisfies her when I respond with, "yes, I am." I think she thinks she won.
Her other insult is to tell me, "You go in garbage truck." This started from Evan a couple of months ago when he would get mad and tell me he was going to put whoever/whatever he was upset at in the garbage. Laura apparently remembered it, and it has resurfaced. However, the other day, it went like this:
Laura: Mommy go in garbage truck. Evan go in garbage truck. Kendra go in garbage truck. Grandpa get snuggle me.
Mommy: We're all going in the garbage truck, so Grandpa gets to snuggle you?
Laura: Uh-huh.
Mommy: Which grandpa?
Laura: Grandpa Fikse.
Mommy: So Grandpa Fikse is going to snuggle you while we're all in the garbage truck?
Laura: Uh-huh. Mommy go in garbage truck. Evan go in garbage truck. Prollally Kendra go in garbage truck. And Grandpa Fikse get to snuggle me.
Really, the world's insults should all be this cute and funny.

"Celebrating" "summer"
We (where "we" means "Chad, Evan, and sometimes Kendra") spent the first weekend of summer (where "summer" means "after preschool was over for the year") camping (where "camping" means "sleeping in a tent in our yard").
Evan read bedtime stories to the girls. And has excellent form for showing them pictures, I might add:
Laura had delusions about being able to fall asleep in the tent:
Evan and Kendra did sleep in the tent:
Laura "roughed it" by sleeping in her toddler bed with one knee hyperextended:
And me? Well, I just kept going back and forth between the house and tent as people needed things one place or the other.

Climbing the walls - 2010 edition
Do you remember the post about Kendra climbing the kitchen walls last summer? Well, she's at it again. But she's definitely refined and improved her technique.
The end of Evan's preschool career
I'm a little (like exactly a month) behind on posting pictures, so here are a couple of pictures from Evan's last day of preschool and his preschool graduation.

What happens when...
What happens when Mommy reminds you, yet again, to get dressed by saying, "just put your clothes on already."
