Kendra was over "it" and out of "sleep" by 10:30 last night. Which made for a rather long night for us. Evan and Laura were also up a few times, just to keep things interesting.
Overnight, we were up with:
Kendra - needed covered up and had lost her pig
Kendra - had a stuffy nose and wanted Vicks on her chest
Kendra - (I don't remember, and I think I was even the one who went up there).
Kendra - Chad just went and slept upstairs; I don't know what she had hollered about.
Kendra - Needed to potty and moved to loveseat.
Evan - Wanted a snuggle.
Kendra - Wanted a cup of milk.
Laura - Just wanted in on the action?
Kendra - Threw up her milk after swallowing too much air trying to swallow her stuffy nose
Laura - Feeling left out again?
Evan - Wondered where Kendra was.
The good news in all of this is that Kendra is completely better today. Wouldn't even know there had been anything wrong with her yesterday. Good job sleeping it off, Kendra! Now, can we work on everyone sleeping all night tonight, lovebugs?

Sleep it off
Yesterday, we had a bit of a rough day at our house. Evan and Kendra had both been getting up at night the last few nights (Evan because of a sore throat and Kendra for unknown reasons). Therefore, they were sleepy, Mommy was sleepy, and no one was very patient or polite with each other. There were very calm, happy, good parts in our day. And there were very crabby, upset parts in our day. One of the happy parts was when Evan walked past Kendra doing this:
and said, "Kendra! You're doing a great job at being lazy!" It was meant as a very heartfelt compliment. That was at 4:15.
At 4:51, I looked over to see why Kendra was so quiet and saw this:
Yep, that's Kendra going to sleep for the night at 4:51. Evan and Kendra may have early bedtimes, but that was a bit excessive. I went over and asked her if she was asleep. She groggily replied with, "Up. Up bed, Mommy." I took her up to bed and thought she felt rather warm. I thought it might have been from going to sleep on her face in a couch cushion with her hair over her though. I checked on her about an hour later, and she was definitely fevery. Thus began her process of sleeping off whatever she had. It went like this:
4:51 p.m.: Fell asleep on couch cushion on floor, went to bed.
7:30-ish p.m.: Came downstairs for a snuggle, fell asleep on loveseat before getting a snuggle.
9:00 p.m.: Gets carried back up to bed, still sound asleep.
1:00 a.m.: Gets up for a potty break, goes right back to sleep.
6:51 a.m.: Comes down to our bed for her daddy snuggle. Awake for a half-hour, back to sleep.
8:51 a.m.: (noticing all the :51's here?) Comes out for potty break, goes to couch for an hour.
9:51 a.m.: Back to our bed to sleep.
12:30-ish: Comes out to "play" (ie. sit on Daddy's lap while he's home for lunch), lays on the couch.
2:45 p.m.: Falls asleep on my lap, gets moved back to our bed.
3:30 p.m.: Comes out for a potty break, moves to the couch.
4:00-ish p.m.: Starts complaining her back hurts.
4:15 p.m.: Stroller ride to Daddy's office to get adjusted, then back to the couch.
6:00 p.m.: Says she's too tired to eat any supper, back to (her own) bed.
If my math is correct, that adds up to Kendra sleeping for 19 out of 24 hours, being awake for another hour, then going back to bed to sleep at Hour 25.
If sleeping "it" off (whatever "it" is) works, she should be nearly perfect by morning!
Lunch requests
Kendra is running a high temperature and is fairly out of it. I asked her for the little while she was awake this morning what she would like for dinner (lunch for the rest of you probably). I asked if she just wants yogurt and applesauce. She nodded yes.
Mommy: Do you want anything else? Or just yogurt and applesauce?
Kendra: Just yogurt.
Mommy: And applesauce?
Kendra: (nods)
A while later...
Mommy: Evan, Kendra just wants yogurt and applesauce for dinner. What should I make for the rest of us?
Evan: Tacos!
Mommy: Is that your favorite food right now?
Evan: (emphatic head nod)
Mommy: Ok, tacos. Laura, tacos sound ok to you?
Laura: No, jus' play Daddy.
Mommy: You just want to play with Daddy?
Laura: (sad face) No, Daddy's at office.
So, if I have this correct, Kendra's having yogurt and applesauce, Evan and Mommy are having tacos, and Laura will be doing her best to keep Daddy from having a chance to eat. Sounds like a plan to me!

Tis (almost) the season
Garage sale season is nearly upon us. And garage sale season means it's time to buy clothes for your kids at indescribably low prices. It's an excellent time to buy ahead for the coming seasons and years. It's also the time when you can unintentionally end up with matching snowsuits for your kids. Tis (almost) the season. And it's my favorite season!

Caught ya!
For the last couple of years, I have fully expected to find Evan and Kendra snuggling in their bed at night. However, I had never seen them anywhere except their own sides of the bed at night. Until a couple of weeks ago. Then, finally, I caught 'em!
Ok, so they're not exactly snuggling. But they are very clearly sharing Evan's side of the bed. So we'll call it snuggling. Or we'll call it "so Kendra really does share the bed just like her Mommy does".

Four years ago and today
Yesterday, it was 61 degrees here.
Four years ago today, it was snowing huge poofy snowflakes here.
Overnight, Kendra had us up at 12:20 and 4:45.
Four years ago overnight, Kendra had us up at 2:00 to head for the hospital for her arrival.
Today, Kendra got to have as much pink milk as she wanted.
Four years ago today, Kendra got to have as much colostrum as she wanted.
Four years ago today, Kendra tried to latch on to her daddy while waiting for her mommy.
Today, Kendra "latched" on to Chad's neck in a hug that cannot be ended by any force other than Kendra's decision to end it.
Four years ago today, Kendra looked like this.
Today, Kendra looked like this.
Four years ago today, I loved Kendra more than I thought possible.
Today, I love her exponentially more than that.

Only 2? Part three
Evan: Buggy, can I hold you?
Laura: Hmm-mm.
Evan: Why don't I ever get to hold you?
Laura: Is not your buggy boo. Is Mommy's!
Laura: Hmm-mm.
Evan: Why don't I ever get to hold you?
Laura: Is not your buggy boo. Is Mommy's!
Didn't listen
Before Chad and I got married, I very clearly told him that when we had kids, he absolutely could not pass his eyes on to our offspring because I didn't want to have to say no to more than one pair of those eyes. He so did not listen to me...

Appropriate and inappropriate
When Chad's putting on his coat to leave the house, Kendra sprints for him and gives him a kiss wherever she can reach. Usually, she kisses a leg. Sometimes a hand. Occasionally his face if he gets bent down quick enough. Today, she kissed slightly "middle" of his legs. We always teach our kids about appropriate and inappropriate touches.
Yesterday, Laura was napping in the van when we went to town, so Chad stayed in the van with the kids while I ran in to the store. Later, Evan reports to me that he and Kendra were trying to wake up Laura while I was in the store. He elaborated by saying, "we tried to wake her up by opening her eyes like this." We always teach our kids about appropriate and inappropriate behavior for while someone's sleeping.
Tonight at bedtime when I sat down to nurse Laura, she demanded "this one" (the right side) and wouldn't back down. I still nurse her starting on the opposite side from the previous time, and she was wrong this time (she usually remembers which side she nursed on the last time so she knows where to start the next time). I offered her the left. She growled, "put that away". I told her she could have the right one second, so she would have it right before I put her in bed. She declared, "Has. Hair. On. It." I assured her with a [brush, brush], "nope, no hair, I checked", and she was satisfied. We always teach our children about appropriate and inappropriate comments.
