To combat last week's heartwarming story about Evan saying it's just like him and me after school when the baby wolves were returned to their mommy and were hugging and snuggling on each other because they were so happy to be back together (This is a very poorly written sentence so far. Look back to
this post to see what I'm talking about.), today's Mother's Day ego check took place. Let me outline it for you ...
- Chad mentioned something to me about Mother's Day this morning before church. I told him to not say anything to the kids about it because I wanted to see how long it would take them to remember. He looked at me and said, "Serious?" "Yeah. I want to see how long it takes them to remember." "I asked them a little while ago if they said 'Happy Mother's Day' to you, and they all three said 'yes.'" "Nope, I haven't heard a thing about it from any of them."
- In Evan's Sunday School class (moms are invited to their kids' Sunday School classes on Mother's Day), the teacher asked each of the kids to say one thing their mom does for them. Evan answered, "I don't know." When the teacher prompted him with, "Well, there's surely something she does for you", Evan responded with, "I can't think of anything."
- In Evan and Kendra's class at school, the kids each painted (I've been corrected repeatedly. It was Sharpie, not paint, but I can't stop myself from saying "painted".) five rocks for their moms. They got to choose what to put on them for designs. As soon as school was out Friday afternoon, Kendra gave me her bag with five cute little rocks she made for Mommy (plus an extra rock, but I'll get to that). Tonight at bedtime, Evan gave me a bag with four rocks he made -- one for Daddy, one for Kendra, one for Laura, and one for himself. Seriously. The fifth rock (the one for me) he had stuck in Kendra's bag so it wouldn't be in with "the rocks I made for everyone".
Nothing like Mother's Day to let you know where you rate...
[Side note: Mother's Day really wasn't that bad. We went to church (but arrived late, which I don't like). We went out to lunch (at McDonald's, which I don't like). And we went to Lowe's and Menards (neither of which I like). But other than that and the repeated ego checks and stepping in gum in a parking lot, it was a really good day!]
[Side note: I love sarcasm, and I think there should be a font dedicated specifically for sarcastic usage.]
[Side note: It really, truly was a good day. I love my kids more than I ever thought possible, and I feel incredibly blessed to be their mom. I wouldn't trade them nor this mom gig for anything!]
