Laura's memory

Last night at supper from Laura ...

"Mommy, remember when Evan and Kendra went swimming in that really, really big pool and there were lots of kids and they were all screaming. And I sat with Mommy and I had fruit snacks. I liked that a lot. But we don't do that anymore, so I don't like it anymore."

You mean this, Laura? Because, if my math serves me correctly, and it does, you were just shy of turning two when that happened.

How do kids do that?!

Sound barrier, eardrums, whatever

I just heard a horrible scream from upstairs. I hollered to ask what was wrong. "Nothing. Laura and I are just trying to break the sound barrier." "No, you break that by going really fast, not by being really loud." "Oh."

Reaction to candy

Since I know at least a couple people who read this blog have experience with food allergies, I decided to post a question on here.
Every once in a while (but only about 3 times), Laura gets blotchy or almost welt-y after eating certain kinds of candy.
Yesterday it happened a while after eating grape Nerds. But it wasn't until almost an hour after finishing them, whereas the other two times were almost immediately. And this was the first time it's been a single spot and also the first time it's looked like it had a head in it.

Here are three pictures from the first time it happened, which was last November. I'm pretty sure it was from SweetTarts on this occasion. And the other time I noticed it was also from SweetTarts, but I can't find that picture right now.

Any ideas what it is? She never seems to notice anything is going on. It only lasts a half-hour, if even that long. It doesn't happen with all kinds of candy. (I don't like that I'm sounding like my kids get to eat lots of candy. They don't, I promise.) And she's had Nerds before with no problem, but maybe this was her first time with the grape kind.

Anyway, I'm not really concerned about this. She doesn't have a reaction to any other foods, and like I said, this has only happened three times. But since it happened yesterday, I thought I'd ask to see if any of you have any ideas. (Pssst...Kristin and Katie, I'm counting on you two to chime in here!)

Pre-bedtime coloring

Last night's bedtime routine changed a little.
Instead of reading, there was something a little different.
A little computer watching.
A little state-finding.
A little color-coding.
And a little coloring.

It's a tie

While you'd be hard pressed to get this little boy to wear jeans to school instead of sweatpants, and while he thinks it's pure torture if he can't stay in jammies all day on Saturdays, come Sunday he has a different plan. He wears a tie to church every Sunday. By choice. Because he likes to. And, he convinces Daddy on more Sundays than not to try and match him color by color. And, even better, Daddy does it every time he's asked.
I love my guys and their ties!
