Playing with our food

After reading this blog post about squid for lunch, I knew we had to try it.

But, squid must not have been interesting enough for our crew.

So, after making lots of squid and octopuses (octopi?), Evan made dumbells

while Kendra made spiders,

and Chad worked on a millipede.

See?

We had quite a pile of creations

that I had to figure out how to get into a pan without breaking them.

Then I played around with taking pictures through steam.

Here was the finished millipede, which I found to be completely disgusting since it looked a little too much like the real thing.

Chad put it on a bun to eat it. That didn't make the appearance much better.

Kendra chose a much cuter route and nibbled one of her spiders into a baby jellyfish.

Evan tried to bend the noodles to make a face.

And Laura was just absent from the other pictures, so here she is.

Final recap: Making these was a lot of fun. Cooking them was fast and easy. Eating them was fun. The taste wasn't spectacular (we just put some butter on them so they wouldn't stick), but everyone ate them. We'll definitely do them again sometime!

Toothless

Since the new teeth were peeking through when the 2nd top one came out,
I thought I better post a picture before he's no longer toothless.

Note: After a weekend away and three late nights, Evan can lose a tooth at 5 a.m. and still fall back asleep until 7:30 (which is way sleeping in for him). I was happy about that since I wasn't looking forward to being up for the day at 5:00 due to a disembodied tooth.

Home again, home again

We're home from a wedding weekend away.
The kids are horribly underslept.
The adults are a bit tired too.
But all went well.
Even the wedding and reception.

This is a normal picture from a wedding reception, right?
