Compact words

Laura: (naked, rolling around, and giggling like crazy)
Mommy: Laura, you need a diaper on.
Laura: (naked, rolling around, and giggling like crazy)
Mommy: Laura, we're going to watch a Bible story DVD before bed, but we're only doing that if everyone is ready for bed and cooperates.
Laura: (naked, rolling around, and giggling like crazy) Ok.
Mommy: First, we need to put a diaper on.
Laura: (naked, rolling around, and giggling like crazy)
Mommy: Laura, we'll watch a Bible story DVD before bed tonight, but you need jammies on.
Laura: (naked, rolling around, and giggling like crazy)
Mommy: We can watch a movie, but you need jammies. First, you need a diaper, then socks, a onesie, and jammies.
Laura: (naked, giggling, but no longer rolling around) Ok.
Mommy: We need to do those four things before we turn on a Bible story movie.
Laura: (halfway diapered) Ok.
Mommy: (dressing Laura) We have your diaper on; that was number one.
Laura: (rolling around and starting to giggle again)
Mommy: (dressing Laura who's on her tummy hanging over the armrest of the loveseat) We have your socks on; that was number two. Now your onesie; that's number three. Hee hee! That's funny! Your onesie is number three!
Evan: Hey! That's a compact word! It's made up of two words. One and zee!

Flat Evan

The other day, Evan took all of the "spare clothes" out of his preschool backpack. He decided to make a guy. Complete with a pencil in the guy's hand. Am I the only one that finds the guy slightly creepy looking?

Evan, boy of my dreams

I never knew it would make me smile so much to hear my son read books to my daughters.
I never knew a son could be so caring and so concerned about trying to keep everyone happy or helping them "find their happy" when they're upset.

I never knew lips could look so kissy.

I never knew eyes could be so blue.

I never knew I would continue to love my son more and more every day, even when he's five.

I love you, Evan. You make me smile each and every day!

(No, the second photo is not editted other than to be cropped. His eyes are just that blue.)

Prayer

Evan and Kendra are going down the little slide while sitting in diaper boxes. They pray before they go down each time. "Dear Jesus, please help me not get hurt and help my box not to tip over. Amen." What a great lesson in prayer! After Evan prayed it the first time, he went down the slide in his box, and it was the first time I'd seen him do it without his box tipping over.
Now that they've seen that prayer answered, they're praying other things before they go down the slide each time. "Help my box not to do the bump." "Thank you for cookies." "Help me not baachy in my pants any more." "Help Jesus in heaven." "Help me get better at wiping myself." "Help my box not to break." "Help me not get hurt." "Thank you for Christmas trees at Christmas."
And each time they get to the bottom of the slide, they say "thank you!"

Just shoot 'em, it's easier

Chad: Why are you lasering me?
Evan: Because I didn't like that you're bigger than me.

"No! My chair."

Last night, Laura was playing with the MagnaDoodle. But not drawing pictures. She was using the square stamper and the flower-shaped stamper. She would put the flower in the square hole and then have the square say, "No, my chair." Then she'd put the square in the square hole and have the flower say, "No! My chair!". In a different voice. The flower would return to the square hole, and on and on. The square and the flower continued to argue for several rounds about whose chair it was, each in their own, very distinct voice.

Had her use of voices not been quite so disturbing, it would have been pretty cute. Ah, who am I kidding. It was cute anyway!

UPDATE: As Laura has continued playing this game with different toys, I've discovered that she's actually saying, "No! My turn!"

Laser their blog, jokes, and aliens

Evan: Ok, we need to find out why they can walk. The closet and the laundry baskets. And we need to check their blog. Because they have a blog. The closet and the laundry basket can walk. Our laser will change them back to normal though. First, we need to tear down their blog. To do that, we take it down and smash it, then we use the laser on it. ...

At this point, I got behind typing.

----------

Chad's parents brought Evan his very first joke book this weekend. He has, literally, had his nose in that book nearly constantly. He loves the knock-knock jokes. His 3 favorites are:

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Frank.
Frank who?
Franks for opening the door!

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Alex.
Alex who?
Alex how you wear your hair.

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Guess Simon
Guess Simon who?
Guess Simon knocking at the wrong door.

Kendra likes everyone laughing. So she made up a joke.

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Football.
Football who?
Football knocking at the wrong door.

Her joke made me laugh just as much as Evan's from the book!

----------

While I'm typing this, I missed the first part of the conversation, but what I did hear was this.

Evan: ... and the aliens might even want to take your underpants. That's because of the book.
Kendra: Ok, in case I see anything scary, I'll take this along.

In Evan's bookorder a couple weeks ago, there was a book called Aliens Love Underpants. He's intrigued by the title, as am I. But that book title must mean that, when Evan and Kendra are playing, aliens will take their underpants.

I really will miss listening to things like this when they get older!

When the photobook is done

When you've spent every post-bedtime hour during the last week working on your very first photobook that has a very specific deadline (thanks to a very generous friend who let me use her free photobook credit), what do you do on your first photobook-free evening?

Why, you create a new wallpaper for your desktop, of course.

Back to blogging

I will be returning to blogging after a week spent

taking baths,

eating cookies,

making funny faces,

sitting on the kitchen counter,

reading books,

pretending to be Minnie Mouse,

and making a photo book online.

You can decide which one I was doing.
