Pre-haircut transformation

Last weekend, Chad cut Evan's hair. They have a new pre-haircut step. Chad wets Evan's hair and then spikes it ... all of it. (The spiking is to allow the clippers to go through his hair and catch all of it more easily than when the hair is laying (lying?) down.) He leaves it this way for a while until the gel has dried.

[By the way, I love this picture!]

Then Chad brushes through it to get the gel all out. On this particular haircut day, Evan's hair stayed standing up very nicely. And Chad commented that Evan looked like the boy from Meet the Robinsons. So, he let Evan put on his glasses for just a bit so we could all see if there was a resemblance.

What do you think?

Negotiations

Laura, carrying a dozen books: Mommy, will you read all these books, even the Thomas one?
Mommy: No, not right now.
Laura: Aw.
Mommy: Maybe we can read when Evan and Kendra get home. Or we could read them while supper is in the oven. But right now, I need to be working.
[Laura runs off, then comes to my desk chair a minute or two later.]
Laura: Let's read this one, Mommy!
Mommy: Just one? Didn't I say we weren't going to read right now?
Laura: Did you say we could read two?
Mommy: No, I said we could read zero.
Laura: Oh, we'll just read one then.

Update to Kendra's news

When Kendra got home this afternoon, she reported about her time in 1st grade: "I loved it!"

Kendra's news

Kendra came home from school Monday afternoon and reported this:
"Today during quiet time, I had to do something* at the teacher's desk. Then, when I was done, she said I have to go to first grade for reading!"

She got to go there this morning for a half-hour. I'm so excited to see what she has to say about it!

*The "something" was a timed reading test to determine her reading level. She kept telling me that the teacher had a timer and that she had done something in 9 seconds. I asked her if she had to read stories, but she was adamant that she just had to read titles. When the teacher told me about this on Tuesday morning, I asked what the deal with the 9 seconds was. It's that Kendra read the Unit 20 (the last/highest story in the kindergarten curriculum) in 9 seconds. Yay, Kendra!

Why?

I know I may regret that cup later tonight, but for right now I've gotta ask:

Why don't I have coffee everyday? It improves my day so very, very much!
