Most likely appropriate right now

Evan drew this last Thursday morning when he was having problems convincing himself that he should wake up and get ready for school.

I figured 6:45 on a Saturday morning is probably an applicable time to post it. At least in our house it is.

(In case you can't read his caption at the bottom, it says, "we need it" under a picture of a guy sleeping in bed.)

New goal

At supper last night...

Mommy: You know, I was happy with the one burrito I had. I'm getting awfully full after finishing the end of Laura's taco and your burrito.

Evan: That's ok. Go for the Obese goal, Mom!

Mommy: Obese really isn't a goal, ya know.

Maybe we should limit the kids' exposure to Wii Fit body tests...

Love and coffee

You know your husband loves you when the following can happen.
And you know you love him when it makes you laugh instead of making you mad.

Lynnette (that's me): Hurry up. Why are you so slow about breakfast? Have you had a single bite yet? It looks like you haven't had any of your milk yet either? What have you been doing? [And other rants at our children in a not-very-friendly voice.]

Chad, from the kitchen: Would you like a cup of coffee?

Lynnette, stops mid-rant: Do I sound like I need coffee?

Chad: You are kind of using your I-need-coffee voice.

Lynnette: Yes, I do think a cup of coffee is a good idea this morning.

Maybe I should have asked for the coffee earlier ... like at 6:35 when Evan crawled in bed beside me and said, "I need a mocha."

Kindergarten-proof hairdo

I tried a new* hairdo for Kendra for school Thursday. Since it was supposed to be hot, I wanted something that would keep her hair off her face and neck for as much of the day as possible.

Here it was at 7:00 a.m.

And here it was at 3:45 p.m.

I would say it survived a full day of kindergarten and three 100+ degree heat index recesses just fine!

*It's not really a new hairdo for her. It had just been several months since we'd done it, so it felt new to my comb and fingers again.

Go Fish

During today's game of Cars Go Fish...

Laura: Do you have any...
Mommy: Who?
Laura: Do you have any...
Mommy: Who?
Laura: Do you have any #6 tractor tipping?
Mommy: Who are you asking?
Laura: You, Mommy.
Mommy: Do I have any #6 tractor tippings?
Laura: No, I don't. But I have a #8.
Mommy [giggling uncontrollably]: Go Fish.
[a couple of turns pass]
Daddy: Laura, do you have any #6 tractor tipping?
Laura: Go Fish.
[Mommy still not under control with the giggles.]
Evan: Laura, do you have any #8 Luigis?
Laura: Go Fish.
Mommy [giggling even more]: Laura, yes you do. You have to give it to Evan.
Laura: Oooo-kaaaay.

The barrage of movies

If you read here regularly (you know who you are, both of you), you may remember Evan's excitement over his first stop-motion animation movie, Penguin Comes to the Counter. His excitement continued for longer than that one movie ... and the rest of us got drawn in also. We spent most of that weekend building "sets" and making movies. Here are the end results:
[Note: They're all only a few seconds long, so don't think you'll be here for hours watching them.]

After Penguin Comes to the Counter, Evan made Sheep at the Counter:

Then I made Piglet on the Stairs:

After that was Kendra's movie, Piglet's Tightrope:

Then Laura's movie:

Then yet another one by Evan, called Wallace's Restaurant which he chose his own music for:

And, finally, Chad got a turn after he was done doing all the technical work on everyone else's movies:

My favorite part was all the little feet moving around during the movies. What's your favorite part?
