The other day, Kendra and I had about an hour alone with just the two of us. Kendra decided we should play a game she made up. She drew a bunch of squares on a paper, then I had to tell her two things we had in our house for each letter of the alphabet. As I came up with one, she'd X off a box. When we got to M, this is what happened...
Kendra: M.
Mommy: Our monkey.
Kendra: We don't have a monkey!
Mommy: The big monkey. The snuggle one.
Kendra: You mean Daddy?
Mommy: (giggling) No, not Daddy. The big stuffed monkey that Daddy snuggles on the couch when he tries to take a nap.
Kendra: You mean me?
Mommy: (giggling more) No, not you. Our big stuffed monkey. Just mark it off for M.

Laura's call to Grandma
The girls are busy playing while I work. Laura grabbed a toy phone and called my mom (No offense to the other grandma. I just know by the content of their calls which grandma they're talking to.) Here is what she said, perfectly enunciated:
Hi Grandma. I wondered if you were going to come over and have a sleepover with us. And if you were going to have _____________* with us. Bye Grandma.
*I have no idea what that blank was. I was expecting "snack", "picnic", or "muffins", but it wasn't any of those. I asked Laura which she had said, but her response was to laugh and say, "not telling" in a sing-songy voice. I asked if she'd said "cinnamon rolls", but I got the same response.

Nope, try again
Correct use of the block wagon?
Nope, try again.
Caught up on laundry? (See the pile behind Evan.)
Nope, try again.
Static under control?
Nope, try again.
Best academic literature ever?
Nope, try again.
Good way to enforce the "don't mess with Mommy's computer" rule?
Nope, try again.
All done loving her and ready to give her up?
Nope, not ever.

Note to self
Dear Self,
You did an excellent job of turning the computer off at 9:15 last night so you could go to bed early. And you were very nice sitting down next to your husband while he finished the chapter he was reading. But picking up the GameBoy while you sat by him wasn't a good idea. Because apparently, when it comes to Dr. Mario, you have the same [lack of] self-restraint that you had in 1989.
As an aside, you still have excellent Dr. Mario'ing skills, especially considering you cleared Level 20 even though you hadn't played the game in at least 5 years. I would commend you on that achievement, but considering you declared that accomplishment at 11:15 p.m., you will not be commended.
Likewise, you will not be given sympathy if you complain about sleepiness today.
Sincerely,
Self

Bedtime prayer
I used to post about the kids' bedtime prayers quite often. I haven't done that lately because the current bedtimes routine doesn't allow me to remember them verbatim until I can get back to the computer. But this one was short, could be remembered, and is worth posting.
One night I was in the girls' room to do their bedtime. The routine in there is that I give Kendra a hug and kiss as she's climbing into bed, I cover her up, I sit on the floor with Laura on my lap, we all three pray, I nurse Laura and sing a song or two, Laura gets in bed, I cover her up, I leave their room. The end.
But, on this particular night, I had unclipped my nursing bra before we prayed. I said, "oh, we forgot to pray", and Laura looked at me like I was nuts to think there was still going to be praying when the door for nursing had already been opened.
I quickly added, "Laura, you pray first so you can have milky stuff while Mommy and Kendra pray."
With no hesitation, she said, "ThankYouForMyMilkyStuff.Amen." and was latched on quick as that.
Possibly the quickest and most sincere prayer ever uttered. By Laura anyway.
