A week and a half ago or so, the girls and I went out on one of the last warm days and cleaned off what was left in the garden.
We went out to pick the few squash I had left earlier. There had been a few that were still green when we got our first frost, so I left them out there, figuring they wouldn't be good if they were really green so I wasn't out anything if they went bad in the garden either.
Turns out, the thick layer of grass and weeds (Hey! I kept the garden clean through the 4th of July. Shouldn't I get some credit for that early effort at least?!) protected the squash through the next few frosts and freezes.
So, we picked the remaining squash.
And we found a few surprise carrots, despite the fact that our carrots didn't produce anything this summer.
Our end-of-season (which was actually way-past-season) finds were huge!
And tiny.
