Just my size!
Why, oh why, does Laura think the best place for her to be is inside the little potty?

And why can she not learn that when you're standing inside the little potty, it will (more than likely) buck you off?

The long and the short of it
Today I tried something new. Something I'd never done before. Something I'd never considered doing until a few months ago. And today was the day. I donated my hair! I didn't go with Locks of Love that so many people use, which is a great program, because I wasn't sure my layered hair would meet the 10-inch requirement. So, after looking online, I found Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program that only requires an 8-inch donation, which I met quite easily. Below you'll find photographs of my hair's progress.
Here is a picture of my hair earlier in the week. I wanted to take a Before picture in case I for some reason forgot about pictures when getting it cut. (Kendra thinks this picture is hilarious, probably because of the camera on top of my head.)
I did not forget about taking pictures though. Instead, all 5 of us went to AllyCuts for my appointment. Chad to take pictures and watch the kids. Me to lose several inches and several ounces of hair.
Here goes the first ponytail.
Here goes the second ponytail.
Here is my short-lived mullet!
Here goes the third and final big ponytail.
All gone!
Ta da!
Straightening it all up and looking for a new style.

Straightening it all up and looking for a new style. And the question most people have asked: What do the kids think? Honestly, I really don't think Evan and Kendra would have noticed. Laura looked at me for a couple minutes after her nap but didn't really seem to have an opinion.
What does Chad think? He looked at me tonight and said, "I'm not sure I like your new haircut. It makes you looked stressed out and depressed." Hmmm ... maybe that had more to do with how my afternoon and evening went with my less-than-well-behaved children than with the hair. But he sure did make me laugh!

Not Me! Monday
This is my first attempt at doing a Not Me! Monday, a wonderful idea by MckMama. It’s all about “being brutally honest and living to tell about it.” Plus, it’s a vehicle for using sarcasm when talking about my week with the kids!
For photographic evidence of a lot of these things that I didn’t do, see my previous post.
I did not give my 2-year-old a bowl of ice cream every single morning this week. No way was I hiding her medicine in there so that she wouldn’t know she was taking it. Because, you know, that could cause problems when she no longer gets ice cream every morning. I’m way more responsible than that.
I did not put my 4-year-old son in tights to go to preschool on Wednesday in the bitter cold, and tell him that he could wear tights the next two days also. And when he came home with wet pants from jumping in a snow pile, I certainly did not take the pants off and let him run around in black cable knit tights the rest of the day. And, by no means did I smile great big every time he ran past me because I liked seeing the shape of his skinny, muscular legs running around. And, I didn’t ask my mom to pick up a bigger size of black tights for him the next day since I knew she’d be stopping at Target. There’s no way I’d been planning to have him wear tights that often. Not me!
After spending the weeks since Christmas telling Evan and Kendra that the doll playpen is only for dolls and that it should be a stationary object, I did not smile big and then laugh when I saw 13-month-old Laura carrying it around. What kind of mom would laugh at an undesired behavior? Not me! And, I absolutely did not get the camera so I could get a picture of her carrying it around. Nope, no way did I continue snapping pictures as she tried to get her ball out of it. And, I’m a way better mom than to have taken a picture of her crying and post it on my blog. Nope, definitely not me.
I did not forget about putting Laura down for her second nap. She’s my third kid; I know that she needs more than one nap. And, while forgetting about her nap, I most certainly did not feed her Magic Stars (store brand of Lucky Charms) as a snack because that would not be the healthy kind of snack she prefers. I’m a much more responsible parent than to both forget her nap and give her a sugary snack, especially all in the span of a very short amount of time.
And, since I am such a responsible parent, I did not forget what happened to Kendra’s medicine on Friday and start worrying that I have Alzheimer’s. That would be nuts of me. Nope, I definitely put her two spoonfuls of ice cream in a little bowl, measured the medicine into it, and gave it to her. There’s no way I left it sitting on the counter (for an hour and a half) before I remembered having measured the medicine and realizing I didn’t remember anything after that. I did not find the empty bowl on the counter and a spoon like I use to feed her the ice cream/medicine mixture. And I most certainly did not call my husband in a panic about what happened to the ice cream and medicine, nor did I relay my fears about my instant onset memory loss. Nope, no way all that happened. Because then my husband would have to tell me that he found the ice cream/medicine well-melted on the counter and gave it to Kendra himself while I was picking up Evan from preschool. There’s no way all that happened.
I also did not allow Laura to eat her Fruity Cheerios (again with the sugary cereals!) without using her hands. That would be very uncouth. Nor did I video it.
I did not allow Laura to teethe on the bathroom counter while standing on a stepstool. That would be dangerous and gross.
I did not encourage my 2-year-old to feed my 13-month-old, just because it would help her eat despite her teething pain.
No sirree, Bob. I absolutely did not do any of those things in the past 7 days.
What did you not do this past week?

This week in pictures
I feel like I haven't posted pictures in a while. I may be wrong, but I'll post a bunch anyway. Also, I'll be doing my very first Not Me! Monday post soon, which a lot of these pictures relate to. So be sure to check that post also.
On Monday and Tuesday, Chad's dad was here to help build a shower in the basement bathroom. Here's what it looked like when Lyle left Tuesday at noon (he left early to try and beat the next winter storm).

Here's Evan with his pirate sword and hook, watching The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (VeggieTales movie). He stayed exactly like this for a good portion of the movie.

Laura's working on 1-year molars and seems to be having a bit of a time with them. She won't eat food, but the bathroom counter sure is good!

For her birthday, Laura got the white lamb that's on the left. It's been in her crib since then, but doesn't get much attention paid to it. This week I realized that we have a pink bunny (on the right) that's from the same line of stuffed animals, so I put it in her crib too because it seemed fun. She loves having both of them. And I love taking pictures of how she sleeps with them! (These pictures are 2 different days.)

Laura started walking full-time this week. She also learned how to carry stuff. Large stuff. Like a doll playpen.
That was holding her beachball.
Which she was trying to retrieve from the doll playpen when she fell in, then over, and got a bit upset about.

This morning, Chad was getting Laura dressed for church while in the middle of getting himself dressed for church. When I looked out to the living room, I realized how perfectly matched they were in their partially-dressed (but still fully-covered!) states.

Laura likes taking things out of the recycling to play with. It's not ideal. But I do find it to be slightly less gross than taking things out of the garbage. At least the recycling stuff has all been rinsed out. In this picture, she's a bit distraught because garbage and recycling got taken out the night before so she can't reach anything.

She made up for this loss by learning to sit on a doll stroller. She was originally standing inside the doll stroller. Which doesn't work so well because she gets her feet stuck. So she's progressed to sitting on it.

Here is Kendra in her "house" (her house is the laundry room and little no-man's-land between the kitchen and laundry room, with a gate up so no one can get in her house) feeding Laura bites of her (Kendra's) toast and honey. But it got Laura to eat something and get off the doll stroller and out of the recycling, so I figured it was a win-win-win situation.
