So proud

Today was refrigerator cleanout day. That means everyone gets to choose their meal from all the leftovers in the fridge. I couldn't have been any prouder of Evan and his dinner choice. So proud that I even took a picture (after he'd already eaten some of it)!

He chose green peppers, tomatoes, blueberries, and a string cheese wrapped in turkey. It was one of those rare meals where I came out feeling like a good mom!

Gettin' there

The basement is getting closer to done. Or at least it feels that way to me. The new carpet came yesterday, only a few hours after an absolute downpour. I wondered if we would have a wet basement before the carpet arrived, but all of the places Chad had caulked held up and nothing leaked!
Here is the first room as you come down the stairs. Obviously the wall on the right needs some work yet. It was kind of a last-minute "oh yeah, we need to fix that wall yet" though to scrape and caulk it, so it didn't get painted in time.
Here's the 2nd room, the big room. With the freshly painted walls, the new carpet, and the new closet door so you can't see into the cool room. Also the door into the 3rd room, the bathroom.
Here is the fresly painted, newly carpeted enormous bathroom with the new toilet. On the right you can see the shower base, so obviously the shower isn't finished yet. And the gap between the toilet and shower is where the sink will go.
Here is a picture in the big room from June so you can see the old wall color.
And here's a picture of what the carpet used to be in the first room and the big room.
Still left to do: hook water up to the toilet, put in a sink, build a wall for the shower and run plumbing to it, put in a couple more outlets, paint the scraped/caulked wall in the first room, and who knows what all that Chad hasn't told me about or that I've forgotten.

Why, oh why, don't I listen?

So, as I sit here at my computer at 2:36 a.m. alternately watching the radar on my computer and the rain and hailstorm outside, I wonder why I don't listen to my children more. As we're getting ready to leave my grandma's house after supper last night, Evan asks about it thundering tonight. Everyone, rather shocked by his question, says it's not going to thunder. Silly us. We got woken up by the rain and hail. And thunder. Not real loud thunder, the hail was much louder. But still. I really need to put more stock in what he forecasts for weather.
And, in case you're wondering why I'm at the computer (other than watching the radar and the real weather), it's because Kendra and her babies are snuggled up in our bed with Chad to stay safe. I'll get my bed back after it's done being loud outside.
